If your team uses Jira or Confluence Cloud, Rovo (Atlassian's AI search, chat and agents) has been included in your plan at no extra cost since 2025. That stays true, but from December 3, 2026 heavier AI use starts drawing from a monthly credit allowance, and anything beyond it is billed.
This guide explains what's metered, what stays free, how big each plan's allowance is, and how to estimate whether your team will go over. Figures are from Atlassian's own pages as of November 2026; links are inline so you can check for updates.
What's changing
Atlassian announced the change on September 1, 2026. Usage-based pricing now covers "deep AI interactions", which Atlassian lists as Rovo Chat, Confluence AI Slides, Jira Coding Agent and Teamwork Graph queries. Allowance limits and billing start on December 3, 2026.
What stays free, per the same announcement: in-line summaries, rewrites and Rovo Search.
Rovo isn't the only meter. Atlassian's usage-based pricing page also covers Automation steps, which have their own monthly allowance per plan. This guide focuses on Rovo credits; it's worth having your admin check Automation usage at the same time.
Rovo itself is still included with paid plans. According to the Rovo licensing page, organizations on Standard, Premium or Enterprise Cloud plans of Jira, Confluence or Jira Service Management get Rovo automatically. Free plans don't get a credit allowance.
